Personal Development at Conyers
At Conyers, our students have a Discovery Hour each fortnight in which they explore three key themes related to personal development:
- Living in the Wider World
- Health and Wellbeing
- Relationships and Community Issues
Our Discovery Hour curriculum is situated within the foundation of the school’s wider positive behaviour policy which encourages students to be ready, respectful and safe. The curriculum provides opportunities for students to gain an insight into financial topics, careers and explore the relationships, health and sex education curriculum. Furthermore, students are introduced to the five Fundamental British Values and encouraged to consider their role within both the local community and society as a whole.
Our Discovery Afternoon programme compliments the topics covered as part of Discovery Hour and encourages students to deepen their understanding of key topics and themes and to challenge themselves to try something new. In addition, our Careers Programme provides students with the information, advice and guidance necessary to allow them to feel confident in the decisions they make about their next steps.
We aim for our students to acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding they need so that they are able to make well-informed decisions and be prepared for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
