JCQ Information for Candidates

Please find below the information for candidates from the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), which oversees all the exam boards.  These documents contain the rules and regulations around examinations, non-examined assessments and coursework that all students should be aware of.

General Student Information

• Arrival times – students should arrive at their exam room at least 10 minutes before the start of the exam.  If students arrive very late for an exam, their paper may not be accepted by the awarding body.  Unless specified otherwise, morning exams start at 9.00 am and afternoon exams start at 1.15 pm.
• Individual exam timetable – all students will receive an exam timetable stating the date and time of each exam.
• External exams – external exams cannot be completed at any other time than stated on the student’s exam timetable.
• Timetable clashes – students with timetable clashes will be given an adjusted timetable outlining arrangements for taking each exam, including supervision between exams where appropriate.
• Candidate number – this can be found on the student’s exam timetable.  It will need to be entered on every exam paper.
• Seat number – for each exam students will be allocated a seat number e.g. A6, C12.  The seat number for each exam is show on the student’s exam timetable.
• Entering the exam room – students should enter the exam room in silence.  No talking or contact with other students should be made until exams have been completed and students are outside the exam room.
• Entering personal details on exam papers – students will need to write their legal surname and forename and candidate number on all exam papers and additional sheets.  They will need to sign papers where required.  Students must not write inappropriate, obscene, or offensive material on their exam papers.
• Stationery & Equipment – students must ensure they take into the room all the equipment they will need for each exam.  They should not rely on equipment being available in the exam room.  Equipment must be in a clear pencil case/bag.  Students must always write in black ink.
• Calculator covers – calculator covers are not allowed in the exam room and should be left in bags.
• Mobile phones – mobile phones (and other electronic devices) are not allowed in the exam room.  Students face disqualification should they have any electronic devices on their person during the exam.
• Watches – watches are not allowed in the exam room of any sort.
• Water – water may be taken into the exam room.  Bottles must be clear with all labels removed.  Food is not allowed in the exam room unless for medical reasons.
• Exams rooms – most exams in will be held in the Sports Hall & School Hall.  Students should check their timetable to ensure they go to the correct room.
• In the exam room – listen carefully to the instructions given by the invigilator at the beginning of each exam.  If you need help during an exam, you should raise your hand to attract an invigilator’s attention.
• JCQ information for Candidates – these JCQ documents can be found on the on the exams page of Conyers School website.  Students must read the documents as they summarise rules and regulations associate with exams.  Any breach of exam rules will lead to disciplinary action by the school in additional to any action taken by the awarding board.
• Uniform – Students in Year 11 and Year 10 must wear full school uniform to all exams.
• Problems on the day – if students are unwell or have other problems on the day of an exam, they should telephone the school by 8:30 am.
