Key Stage 4 Curriculum Map

Curriculum Intent

Enhance students’ awareness and understanding of the wider world and provide opportunities to expand their horizons. To equip students with skills to develop their understanding and independence. To Nurture and develop students’ confidence and knowledge in at least one Foreign Language so they can express themselves on a wide range of topics

Key Knowledge and Skills

Develop ability to deal with unknown vocabulary either spoken or written
Understand issues in the wider world and being able to relate and express an opinion about them
Demonstrate an understanding of grammar and tenses to allow a greater degree of creativity and spontaneity

Sequence Discussion

A bigger emphasis is on the understanding of more complex grammar and tenses at the beginning of the year. The themes covered are wide and varied and although students will have their preferred topics they will be able to understand and respond to all the themes studied. Therefore previous themes are revised and recycled on a regular basis. Some questions from KS3 will be studied in more depth and the responses will show more maturity and knowledge than at KS3 and in preparation for KS5. Some emphasis is on balancing accuracy and spontaneity when conversing with higher expectations for students displaying ability and/or wishing to study languages at KS5.
